This work tells the story of a pair of blind children taking the road of music. I hope that through this work, more people can see the inner life of the blind, and I hope they can use the melody as a brush and the musical notes as a pattern to paint their inner world.
Through research, I found that music is an art of emotion, and everyone can express their feelings through music. For this reason, I used creative coding to create a set of sound generation picture logic for blind people, so that they can draw in a certain way. I am a designer, and I also love music. Piano has always been my hobby. I know that music can subtly affect a person's psychology, improve people's temperament, and enhance self-confidence. I hope that this project can combine Music and design, find a combination with my interests and start to create some of my fun in music.
Recently I saw a movie "The Blind Musician" and I was deeply touched, because they lacked color in their eyes, but they yearned for a colorful world in their hearts. They could only paint the inner world through the black and white keys of the piano.
The two twin sisters suffered permanent eye blindness due to insufficient blood supply at birth, but their mother did not give up, and nurtured them with all her heart. For more than ten years, she took them to many resorts, took them to experience the world. After studying music, they are moving characters in our town. Pianist Lang Lang gave them pianos and invited them to the event. The twin sisters are very interested in piano and have sufficient knowledge of music theory.
My first music teacher has been engaged in music education for 30 years, she told me about her understanding of music.
Baoyi Chen is a piano graduate student at the University of Southern California. He has his own unique insights into composition and improvisation.
Haihong Zhou is a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music. He believes that music is an art of emotion, and music can communicate with many things in life.
This was the twins' first attempt at drawing on paper using my methodology, which they had never tried before, and I asked them to compare musical notes to dots, melodies to lines, and musical emotions to surfaces.
----The left side is summer, and the right side is autumn. They paint the four seasons through my methodology, and then I prepare for the production of my visual effects according to their pictures.
When the concert was approaching, I invited the twins to come to my house for a rehearsal. I made their results into an invitation letter in advance. Behind each piece of work was their understanding of the seasons. They compared notes to paintbrushes on the keys.
The program of this concert mainly includes introduction items --- introduction of the main character --- the twins playing "Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter" --- Baoyi as a guest performance --- the twins playing and singing the concluding song "Poetry of the Four Seasons"
I designed a comment section on the back of the invitation where the audience would write their thoughts at the end of the concert and I would pass these thoughts on to the twins.
The audience wrote down their feelings on the back of the invitation, and I will use their feelings as the final conclusion.
The planning of this event has grown greatly, and there were many accidents on the way, not only the epidemic situation, site problems, but also a lot of debugging on the program. But I have solved them, and I understand that the methods are more difficult than the difficulties. But most importantly, it was done with the help of parents and friends. Without them, they could not do it by themselves, which made me understand that teamwork is important.
